No.7 LSU vs Arkansas

#7 LSU vs Arkansas

by | Blog

One big game matchup in the SEC this weekend is LSU(7) VS Arkansas and they will be playing for the golden boot. LSU leads the series 42-23-2. LSU is coming off a big home win last week defeating Alabama in a nail bitter, 32-31. Arkansas comes off a loss to Liberty (19) at home.

LSU is coming in as the heavy favorite in this battle for the boot and they’re most likely still on their high after defeating an NFL loaded roster. Arkansas might be able to capitalize on that confidence if LSU overlooks them. This week’s game is not going to be an easy one for the Tigers as the Razorbacks have the tools and potential to take the Tigers down.

Both teams are coached very well. LSU has Brian Kelly who likes his offenses more in the spread category but in recent years has developed more of a “whatever we need to win” type of offense. At times he doesn’t mind getting into the two back sets to get you pulled into the box and then will come back at you with an empty look for the long ball, and that’s all due to the help of OC Mike Denbrook. LSU’s defense has really come along and has given a ton of breathing room for Kelly’s offense. Matt House, LSU’s DC, has a super bowl resume from his run with the Chiefs, so his knowledge at both levels will give LSU an even greater chance to win this week.

Arkansas has Sam Pittman who returned to Arkansas after having a national title run with the Georgia bulldogs in 2017. He’s new to the head coaching game unlike Brian Kelly but has a lot of buzz around him. Arkansas upfront is very good. Pittman’s philosophy of intensity over everything isn’t always the best it can be extremely lethal with a good line like Arkansas possesses. The Arkansas defense which is led by Barry Odom has not been living up to the hype that was acquired early in the season. However, last week against Liberty the Arkansas D seemed to show a sign of strength in the second half by allowing zero points.

In conclusion, our opinion is the Tigers will come out on top but remember this is for the “Golden Boot,” and in rivalries rankings are always thrown out the window. Arkansas has the fire power to do it if they can capitalize on LSU’s bad plays and Pittman can get the mojo going before the game and continue it throughout the game, which will give the Razorbacks a shot, but if they come out flat the Tigers will put this game to bed before the first half.
